most likely you would be using the ddr1 ram in which the extra gig would only give a noticeable difference for thing like installing progs etc. if you are not into games and so on the extra ram would be a little wasteful. if you really want blazing speeds try upgrading to a dual core chip on a high end board that uses ddr3 ram
