Should I tell my boyfriend or not?

I recently found out that i have hsv-1 or oral . When the Dr. told me I was shocked and embarred because i don't give and I've been with my partner for 2 years and never got anything. We also have a child together so i trust him. The Dr. said I probably got if from drinking after someone.(what are the odds of that happening) I haven't experienced any cold sores or fever blisters but I'm always worried about someone noticing one I asked the Dr. should I tell my partner and he said no but it is eating me up keeping a secret like this especially when I don't know where i got it from. I don't know what to do or how to explain it if one comes up.
